progression

So i’ve just moved all the 4 Hour Body posts to a new blog, as promised.

www.4HBfoodie.com

So after much thinking and reading, i’ve decided to give the 4 Hour Body thing a go. I have perused several blogs of people keeping up with their experiences and i like the idea of doing the same. For the moment i’m just going to re-purpose this blog temporarily. If the thing goes well, i will probably start a new one with an appropriate domain name, but we’ll see if we get that far.

I first heard about the 4 Hour Body book on a rerun of the Dr. Oz show. I am not a regular watcher but i stopped on it as the subject matter was something that has been on my mind lately, tools to help weight loss aside from just responsible eating and regular exercise. I dont mean like crazy stuff, i’m not looking for Hydroxycut or any of that crap. But i do get my fruits and veggies in, i drink water and not much soda, and i dont own a car so i ride my bike everywhere. I probably put in several miles a day since part of my work is to deliver posters around town. Despite this, i just maintain at the weight i currently am. However, i gained 10 pounds last month (the event that has sort of pushed me over the edge to do something). 10lbs sounds like a lot but half of it was a new contraceptive i’m on that causes some weight gain. The other half was a four day vacation where i happily ate whatever deliciousness was in front of me. But now i’m worried if the trend to maintain holds true i may not lose this 10lbs and just stay at the 190 i currently find myself at. And this possibility pisses me off because it’s just big enough to not feel comfortable in my clothes anymore, and i LIKE my clothes.

Thus the interest in 4 Hour Body. From what i’ve read it’s not very much different from the things i currently eat, i love fruit but always forget to buy it at the store and so don’t end up eating much of it. This is good since it means eliminating it from my diet wont be that hard. I love beans of all shapes and sizes and love preparing them in tasty ways, they’re a big part of the 4HB eating plan. I’ve planned for quite some time to get some multi-vitamins in but never got around to it. I don’t know if i’ll go full out and get all the supplements recommended in the book, i’m not a big pill taker. But anything more than the nothing i’m doing now will be an improvement. And i’ve already used (and own) kettle bells and i love them so i’m totally happy that they are a part of the exercise plan. Lastly, the “binge day” both excites me and gives me pause. I’m pleased by it since i am a major foodie and count few things finer in this life than a really really good meal. I know if i had to eliminate lovely things like cake and curries and manicotti i would be very sad indeed and would highly doubt the sustainability of the diet for me. I have a raving sweet tooth, but if i knew i could go nuts one day a week i feel i could hold out for that one day and not cheat. I do want to be careful though, it seems some people feel like it’s two steps forward and one step back as they spend half the week losing the weight they gain from the one “binge day”.

As it stands now, i’m looking forward to the idea of the 4 Hour Body but it’s still in the planning phase. i just bought the book on Ebay (sorry Tim, i’m poor and had to find the cheapest copy i could) so it will come in about 3-5 days. Then there will be reading and buying some foods in preparation. But mostly i’m cautiously optimistic. I think changing what and when i eat in conjunction with the heaps of cardio i already do will be the tool i need to continue losing the weight i want and to becoming healthier for a lifetime.

My goal is to loose 25 pounds with this and i think that’s a realistic and achievable goal over the next few months. My ideal weight is actually 150lbs. I’m only 5’3″ but i’ve always carried a lot of muscle and so have always looked 20 pounds lighter than i actually am (ie, when i’m 150 i look 130). But a 25lb loss will put me at 165 and i’d be super pleased with that result.

For anyone looking to compare themselves for their own results, i’m:

Current weight 190
Goal weight 165 (Super goal weight 150)
