sleeping has become annoyingly like recharging my cellphone. it’s frustrating that i have to do it everyday as it interrupts the flow of productivity. i understand that if i didn’t charge the phone, or for that matter my brain, they would eventually become completely un-usable. i just don’t like that for 4-7 hours i have reduced use of either. the only difference between charging the phone and sleep is that i quite like sleep and i’m pretty sure the phone has no opinion either way. but recently i have so many projects on and so much to do i wish i could just buy a backup brain, keep it charged and swap it out when the other one runs down.
as it stands, i can’t even do that with my phone. o_O
Reading online about Reid’s objections to the proposed Mosque at ground zero (btw, i wish they’d come up with a new name for that site, this isn’t a sci-fi novel, it’s New York City) the article mentioned some representatives think you are out of touch with the views of Americans. I wanted to tell you that, as an American, I was so incredibly pleased to hear you stand up for their right to build one there. Fear of Muslims and anything Islamic will only serve to increase domestic tensions which will play out in unforeseen but undoubtedly bad ways abroad. but you know this. We can’t afford to let generalizations of a whole people-group persist as it will just eat away at the foundations of our coexistence. That is why I think a Mosque in that place is a good idea. It would be hard to ignore and will make people look at it and the people in it and think about them. instead of just passively ignoring, making it easier to hang onto the preexisting stereotypes.
I won’t spout that Muslims are “good and kind people” because that’s just a generalization of another kind. They are a massive people group with the same variations of belief structure, sociopolitical opinions, regional perspectives and priorities as any other massive people group. Just as i found it frustrating to try to describe all Americans in one sweeping explanation to people i met overseas, it’s equally unfair to assume all Muslims have one defining description.
but i digress.
I hope you will take my message as evidence that not all Americans side with the ignorant and scared. and if you can’t take my vote of support in this note as an indication of those that feel the same but just haven’t written, then know that at least I, a 27 year old white lower-middle class female, thinks that if they want to build a Mosque near ground zero, let them. And thanks for feeling the same, please continue to stand up against ignorance and fear.
RT @NathanFillion "Use front of eye RT @alissadale Out of the corner of my eye, your Twitter pic looks like George Clooney. This confuses my brain to no end."
you ever have a day so frustratingly unproductive and dissatisfying that you don’t want to sleep since you’d lose the chance to do something, anything, useful and thereby salvage something from the day?
that’s my day. now it’s 12:49am and i’m listening to BBC world news on OPB. my legs are tired from sitting at my desk so long. i have a nice bed waiting for me and a nice book, Why Does E=mc2? And Why Should We Care?, to read in said bed. but i can’t go to it or the day will be over and i will be left with a definitive sense of missed opportunity. and it’s the bad kind of missed opportunity, not the kind missed due to circumstances out of my control, but missed due to the inadequacy of my own attempts to seize that opportunity.
alright internet, i have soaked in the tub and am now dirt and dust free :] i have several hundred tweets to read. lets do this!!! #

what do you do on a sultry sunday evening when it’s still 90 at 9pm and everyone in the neighborhood has taken to the streets and doorsteps as they can’t bare to boil inside four walls and baking in the open seems preferable? well, i’ve got the front door wide open, the box fan on high, and Esperanza Spalding singing Fall In at full volume. seems appropriate :]
so much fun happened this week, felt like writing several times but been a bit busy:
got fired. saw it coming. not a banker o_O
got some attention from Mr. Minchin in the form of a youtube comment and an email. both nice but still can’t get his yea or nay on the shirt designs sent a month ago.
got an @mention from ProfBrianCox. had minor physics fan freakout (luf him).
got a haircut. so cute it hurts ;] id show you pictures but yahoo has locked me out of my flickr account and i have to make a whole new one now X[
saw Inception twice. mind completely blown. best cinema experience since the first LoTR premier.
Finished the FanGirl Magazine website. well... not finished, but it's live. now to get what regular readers J's got on livejournal to swap to the website, we'll be golden.
what else.... bought a cute table for $10. ... missed Comic Con. again. ... binged on chocolate a bit. regretting that. ... resisted other temptation successfully. have a hankering to write something about it, but will have to wait. feeling alright. kind of scared shitless about being unemployed again, but staying remarkably positive which can only help in the job search.
i’ve got shit to say! and stuff to do! and people to chat up! and blogs to read! and websites to build! and merchandise to design! and stores to setup! and flats to decorate (well just one)! and family to spend time with and tell them i love them and make sure they know it by my actions and not just my words! and…ya lots of stuff so STOP BOTHERING ME*
